Prague will welcome acclaimed US director Abel Ferrara to next month’s Febiofest, the Czech capital’s largest film festival.
Ferrara will be on hand to receive the festival’s Kristián Award for Contribution to World Cinema at next month’s festival, which begins on March 23.
The director is best known, perhaps, for his New York-set crime dramas such as Bad Lieutenant, starring Harvey Keitel, and King of New York and The Funeral, both with Christopher Walken.
Ferrara’s latest films include Pasolini, a biopic about the famed Italian director that starred Willem Dafoe in the title role, and the controversial Welcome to New York, featuring Gérard Depardieu. Both were released in 2014.
Other honorees at this year’s Febiofest include Polish director Agnieszka Holland, who previously made the acclaimed HBO miniseries Burning Bush in Prague, and famed Czech actor Jan Tříska.
This year’s Febiofest will take place at Prague’s CineStar Anděl from March 23-31 and continue in cities across the Czech Republic the following month.
