Mason Thames and Nico Parker in How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

Czech streaming charts Jan. 12-18: ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ debuts in first for SkyShowtime

How to Train Your Dragon was the most popular movie on streaming services in the Czech Republic over the past week, according to data from global streaming aggregator JustWatch. The live-action remake starring Mason Thames and Gerard Butler made its streaming debut on SkyShowtime last week after cleaning up at the local box office last summer.

A new 2026 release debuted in second for Netflix: The Rip, a Miami-set police thriller starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The Joe Carnahan-directed film opened to largely positive reviews on the streamer over the weekend; The Prague Reporter calls it a “smartly assembled piece of Netflix-era genre filmmaking.”

One Battle After Another continues to hold strong in its fifth weekend of release on HBO Max. Paul Thomas Anderson‘s epic black comedy based on the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a father attempting to save his daughter during a questionable military intervention led by a colonel from their past, played by Sean Penn.

Coming in fourth for Netflix for the second straight week was the original film People We Meet on Vacation, a romantic comedy about two friends who become even closer after sharing a week of summer vacation together. The film is based on the novel by Emily Henry and stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth.

A full year after its streaming debut on Disney+, Alien: Romulus surged back into the Czech streaming charts after also releasing on HBO Max. The Fede Alvarez franchise retool also has renewed interest thanks to the popularity of streaming series Alien: Earth, which premiered to largely positive reception on Disney+ last fall.

Fallout surged back to the top of the charts among TV series for Prime Video over the past week, according to JustWatch. The action-comedy from producer Jonathan Nolan (Westworld), based on the popular series of Bethesda video games, has dropped the first five episodes of its second season and will release new episodes weekly on Wednesdays through Feb. 4.

The Rookie, which recently premiered its Prague-shot debut episode of its eighth season on ABC in the States, surged all the way up to second among TV series over the past week. Earlier seasons of the Nathan Fillion-starring cop drama are streaming on Netflix and Disney+ in the Czech Republic.

Stranger Things dropped to third place over the past week, two weeks after dropping its season five finale on Dec. 31. The staggered release of the series throughout December instead of a single drop proved a wise move for the streaming giant, with its biggest series dominating the streaming conversation all month long.

The Night Manager, which ousted Stranger Things from its month-long hold over the top spot last week, fell to fourth over the past week. The spy series based on the novel by John le Carré stars Tom Hiddleston as a British intelligence agent. The series has released its first three episodes on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly through Feb. 1.

Rounding out the top five for the second straight week was the local series The Markovič Method, which came in fifth for OnePlay. The TV Nova-produced Czech crime drama follows real-life investigator Jiří Markovič, who collaborated with the filmmakers prior to his death. Season one followed his pursuit of notorious serial killer Ladislav Hojer; season two has just premiered.
