Laila Lockhart Kraner in Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie (2025)

Czech box office Sept. 18-21: ‘The Conjuring: Last Rights’ holds top spot; ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ debuts third

The Conjuring: Last Rites continues to dominate the Czech box office this September, raking in CZK 4.5 million to bring its cumulative total to CZK 36.7 million ($1.8 million). The film fell 51 percent in its third week of release—which was still better than most holdovers on what might have been the last summer weekend of the year, with unseasonably warm temperatures locally.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle dropped 69 percent but held on to second place at the Czech box office with CZK 1.6 million. The worldwide anime smash, playing locally in its original Japanese version with Czech subtitles, has earned CZK 7.8 million ($380,0000) over two weeks of release.

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, a children’s film based on the popular Netflix series from Blue’s Clues vets Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey, debuted in third. Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig co-star alongside lead Laila Lockhart Kraner in the big-screen adaptation, which like the series, combines elements of live-action and animation. The film is screening in a Czech-dubbed version in local release.

Despite playing in limited release, David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome scored an impressive CZK 704,000 to come in fourth at the Czech box office. The live performance from the Pink Floyd veteran fared better than the concert documentary Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe, which only barely cracked the top 20 in its debut.

Among new local releases, the Slovak-Czech co-production Father earned CZK 405,000 to come in ninth despite its troubling subject matter. Better Go Mad in the Wild, which won the top prize at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, debuted in 13th with CZK 352,000.

The Dave Bautista action-heist film Afterburn fizzled out at the Czech box office with a mere CZK 323,000 in its debut weekend. Shot in Bratislava, the movie was dumped in cinemas worldwide without much publicity.

Super-Charlie, a Swedish-Danish animated film screening locally in a Czech-dubbed version, earned CZK 478,000 in its debut to come in eighth.

And it took nearly a decade to secure a theatrical release in the Czech Republic, but Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 animated hit Your Name cracked the top 10 in its long-awaited debut. The beloved film, which currently ranks in IMDb’s top 100 of all time, is slated for a live-action remake from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot Productions.
