Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another (2025)

Czech box office Sept. 25-28: ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse’ claws way to top; ‘One Battle After Another’ debuts in second

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie surged into the top spot at the Czech box office this weekend with CZK 5.49 million after debuting third in limited preview screenings last week. The big-screen adaptation of the popular Netflix series, which stars Gloria Estefan and Kristen Wiig alongside lead Laila Lockhart Kraner, is screening locally in a Czech-dubbed version.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another came in second in its debut with CZK 3.95 million. The epic black comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio led the U.S. box office this weekend with $22.4 million, and looks to build on its early box office success over the coming months with awards season buzz following enthusiastic reviews, including one from The Prague Reporter.

Franz, a German-Czech-Polish biopic that explores the life and legacy of Franz Kafka, debuted in third at the Czech box office with CZK 2.86 million. Director Agnieszka Holland‘s film, which filmed in Prague last spring, was recently selected as Poland’s official submission to the 2026 Academy Awards.

Slipping to fourth after leading the Czech box office for most of September was the horror sequel The Conjuring: Last Rites, earning CZK 2.83 million to bring its four-week total to north of CZK 40 million ($1.97 million). One of this summer’s breakout hits, the horror film far outperformed blockbusters like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in local cinemas.

Coming in fifth was Má vlast, a taped theatrical collaboration between the Czech Philharmonic, Dekkadancers, the Forman Brothers Theatre, and Jatka78. Reimagining composer Bedřich Smetana’s set of symphonic poems that are considered an unofficial Czech anthem, the performance earned CZK 1.86 million over the holiday weekend, which coincided with Czech Statehood Day.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle fell to sixth at the Czech box office, but non-Czech speaking anime fans in Prague are in luck: English-subtitled screenings of the worldwide hit have finally been scheduled locally at Kino Světozor next weekend.

Among other new releases, Jemný rváč, a new documentary about Czech Olympic judo champion Lukáš Krpálek, cracked the top 10 with CZK 571,000. The Strangers: Chapter 2 came in 12th in its debut weekend, despite ranking third in the states, and the excellent Sirât, one of the most talked-about films at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, finished in 13th.
