Czech box office Aug. 7-10: ‘Weapons’ opens fourth, ‘Džob’ leads for second weekend

Džob (a transliteration of Job) continued to lead to Czech box office in its second week of release. The comedy from Tomáš Vorel, a sequel to his films The Can (Gympl) and Vejška, brought in CZK 6.25 million, adding to its impressive two-week tally of CZK 31.1 million ($1.47 million).

Another Round, a Czech remake of Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar-winning drama of the same name, opened relatively soft with CZK 2.93 million despite debuting on nearly twice the number of screens as Džob.

Zach Cregger‘s Weapons, which impressively topped the US box office this past weekend, opened fourth in Czechia with CZK 2.10 million. Cregger personally introduced the film at Prague’s Edison Filmhub on Wednesday, with the director in town ahead of production on Resident Evil.

Among other new releases, the Slovak biopic Duchoň debuted at 8th in the weekend box office, the Jamie Lee CurtisLindsay Lohan sequel Freakier Friday just cracked the top 10, the Eminem documentary STANS came in at 12, and the UK animated film Spiked opened at 16. Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby opened outside the top 20.

Most holdover titles experienced larger than usual drops this weekend as the Czech Republic saw sunny skies after weeks of unseasonably cool weather. F1 continues to dominate as the top summer blockbuster at the Czech box office, coming in third to bring its seven-week total to CZK 87.4 million ($4.14 million).

Jurassic World Rebirth came in fifth to bring its six-week total to CZK 55.6 million ($2.64 million). Superhero films continue to perform poorly this summer in Czechia, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps seeing a precipitous 67 percent drop in its third week of release to come in seventh, and Superman dropping out of the top 20 in its fifth week of release.
