Predator: Badlands (2025)

Czech box office Nov. 6-9: ‘Predator: Badlands’ leads hunt to the top of the charts

Predator: Badlands opened with CZK 5.59 million to lead the Czech box office this weekend, falling in line with a strong performance globally. Box office tallies for latest entry in the Predator series are especially impressive following 2022’s excellent Prey, which skipped a theatrical release to debut straight to streaming services (Disney+ in Czechia).

Coming in second was the Czech comedy Milion, earning a strong CZK 3.37 million. The new film from director Rudolf Merkner (2023’s How to Survive Your Love) stars veteran actor Jiří Lábus as a grandfather who announces a competition among his numerous children that will award a million euros to his next born grandchild.

Debuting in third was A Mouse Hunt for Christmas (Hvis ingen går i fella) with CZK 1.90 million. The Norwegian-produced family film combines elements of Home Alone and Mouse Hunt in its story of a group of mice who fight back against the humans who move into their quiet country home. Screening locally only in a Czech-dubbed version.

Last weekend’s champ, Sugar Candy (Cukrkandl), dropped to third this weekend but suffered only a modest 38 percent drop to earn CZK 1.35 million and bring its three-week total to CZK 12.06 million. The family-friendly fairy tale stars Tereza Ramba as a young woman who inherits a mysterious house and starts a dental practice for children with the help of an exotic Peruvian herb.

Dracula: A Love Tale rounded out the top five in its second week of release, earning CZK 1.24 million to bring its two-week total to CZK 3.87 million. Writer-director Luc Besson‘s sleek update of Bram Stoker’s classic story is screening locally in both English and Czech-dubbed versions.

Among other new releases this weekend, Virtual Girlfriends (Virtuální přítelkyně) debuted in sixth with a strong CZK 1.13 million for distributor Aerofilms. The new Czech documentary from director Barbora Chalupová (Caught in the Net) follows local OnlyFans creators over the course of a year, charting their relationships both in real-life and online.

Tales from the Magic Garden, a stop-motion animated feature based on Czech author Arnošt Goldflam’s children’s book Of Unwanted Things and People, debuted in eighth with CZK 801,000. The film premiered earlier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Despite the star power of Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, Die My Love failed to drum up interest locally, opening with CZK 340,000 to come in 18th. Director Lynne Ramsay‘s stark drama also wiped out at the U.S. box office over the weekend, where it came in eighth for distributor Mubi.

40th anniversary screenings of Back to the Future performed slightly better, earning CZK 365,000 in limited engagements to rank 17th. Unlike other territories, the rerelease did not benefit from IMAX screenings, which were exclusively reserved for Predator: Badlands in its opening week of release.
