Ana de Armas strolls in front of a giant glass archway in central Prague in a new poster for the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which opens worldwide the first weekend of June. The Lionsgate feature, which also features franchise star Keanu Reeves, was filmed in Prague and across Czechia during the winter of 2022–23.
Ballerina, also titled From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, has released a final trailer and a new poster ahead of the movie’s debut on June 5. The new trailer offers fans a last look at the high-octane action, with scenes largely showcasing Czech locations already seen in earlier teasers.
The poster places de Armas in front of a prominent glass doorway along Prague’s Náplavka riverfront walkway. While the specific venue isn’t confirmed, it’s one of about 20 ‘dungeons’ that include several popular embankment bars or cafés such as A(V)oid Floating Gallery, LAb, and Bike7. In the background, Prague’s iconic Charles Bridge is also visible, although this would not be geographically accurate from the poster’s vantage point.
The final trailer for Ballerina reinforces the film’s strong ties to Prague and other Czech locations. Scenes from the trailer include key Prague landmarks such as the National Theatre, the Náplavka waterfront, and city streets around Karlín and Bubeneč. The film also utilized Masarykovo nádraží train station and the New Stage of the National Theatre (Nová scéna) for key sequences.
Production extended beyond Prague, incorporating Central Bohemian landmarks like Kačina Castle, Dolní Beřkovice Castle, and the ruins of the Belvedere Summer Castle near Kutná Hora. Snow-covered sequences with Reeves were filmed at the latter.
Other filming sites in the Czech Republic included Kouřim, Kladno, Kolín, Semily, and Toušeň. While principal photography wrapped in 2023, additional reshoots were conducted in Budapest in early 2024. Czech Anglo Productions handled the film’s local production services.
In Ballerina, de Armas plays Eve Macarro, a Russian ballerina-turned-assassin introduced briefly in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Her character is driven by a quest for vengeance against those who killed her family, unfolding between the events of the third and fourth Wick films.
Reeves reprises his role as John Wick, with supporting appearances from franchise veterans Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and the late Lance Reddick, in what will be his final on-screen role. Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno also join the franchise for this spinoff.
Industry projections suggest Ballerina could open to more than $35 million at the U.S. box office, according to Deadline. That figure would place it above the debut of John Wick: Chapter 2 and in line with other recent spinoff titles such as The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The film’s production budget was reportedly between $80 million and $90 million, including reshoots directed by franchise architect Chad Stahelski that were filmed in Budapest a year after the initial shoot.
Ballerina‘s June release benefits from the continued popularity of the John Wick universe. The franchise has earned more than $1 billion globally, with John Wick: Chapter 4 alone grossing $440 million. That momentum, along with strong social media buzz and a high-octane final trailer, could help Ballerina secure its place as the series’ first successful feature-length spinoff.
Directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard), Ballerina was scripted by Shay Hatten, who previously co-wrote John Wick: Chapter 3. Oscar-winning screenwriter Emerald Fennell also contributed to the screenplay. The film marks a return to action for star Ana de Armas following her roles in No Time to Die and The Gray Man.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opens in Czech cinemas on June 5.
