Kathryn Bigelow‘s riveting political thriller A House of Dynamite was the most popular film on streaming services in the Czech Republic over the past week, according to streaming aggregator JustWatch. The tense drama, which co-stars Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba, shot up to the number one position after debuting in fifth last weekend.
The hit horror film Weapons, which came in first last week during its streaming debut on HBO Max, finished second over the Halloween weekend. Director Zach Cregger is currently in Prague for production of Resident Evil, which shot in the city’s Karlín district over the past week.
Hedda, a modern reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s renowned 1891 play Hedda Gabler, came in third for Prime Video. The new drama from director Nia DaCosta (The Marvels) stars Tessa Thompson in the titular role of a wealthy general’s daughter bored in both marriage and life.
Among other new releases, the Netflix documentary The White House Effect, which explores a U.S. political divide surrounding the climate crisis during the George H.W. Bush administration, came in a surprising fifth over the past week. Despite its pedigree, Ballad of a Small Player, a gambling drama from Oscar-nominated director Edward Berger starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton, only barely cracked the top 10.
The past week’s release of It: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max also gave a big boost to the 2017 film starring Bill Skarsgård as the menacing clown Pennywise. The first of director Andy Muschietti‘s two It movies came in fourth over the past week and is streaming in Czechia on HBO Max and OnePlay.
