Robin Wright to be awarded at 2023 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Actress Robin Wright is the latest guest to be confirmed for the 2023 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, joining an impressive lineup of stars coming to this year’s festival that includes Russell Crowe, Ewan McGregor, Alicia Vikander, and Patricia Clarkson, who will be serving as a festival judge.

Wright will be presented with the KVIFF President’s Award during the closing ceremony of this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on July 8. The festival will also screen her 1987 classic The Princess Bride, in which she stars opposite Cary Elwes.

The actress is best known to most audiences, perhaps, for her performance as Jenny in 1994’s Forrest Gump as well as her role of First Lady Claire Underwood on Netflix’s House of Cards. She transitioned behind the camera during her time on the series, directing 10 episodes of House of Cards and later episodes of Ozark on Netflix and a 2021 feature debut, Land.

For her role in House of Cards, Wright received three Golden Globe nominations (winning once), and five consecutive Emmy nominations.

The actress has recently appeared in the blockbuster films Wonder Woman 1984 and Blade Runner 2049. This fall, she’ll be seen in the Netflix fantasy film Damsel, alongside Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, as well as director Robert ZemeckisHere, opposite Tom Hanks and Kelly Reilly.

Wright’s other notable credits include work in the Nick Cassavetes’ 1998 comedy-drama She’s So Lovely, Rodrigo Garcia’s 2009 ensemble Nine Lives, David Fincher‘s 2011 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Bennet Miller‘s Moneyball, opposite Brad Pitt, the 2014 thriller A Most Wanted Man, alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman in his final role.

One of Wright’s most memorable performances came in Ari Folman‘s underrated 2013 science fiction film The Congress, in which she stars as a version of herself who sells her likeness to a film studio that turns her image into a computer-generated star.

Apart from her work in film, Robin Wright has long served as a spokesperson for the Enough Project, which is dedicated to bringing peace to Congo. As part of the Pour Les Femmes Foundation, she helps provide opportunities to empower women and promote gender equality in developing countries and areas of conflict.

Alongside Wright, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival announced a few other guests of this year’s 57th edition on Tuesday. Writer-director Celine Song will present her acclaimed film Past Lives alongside producer and indie cinema icon Christine Vachon.

French actor Vincent Perez (1990’s Cyrano de Bergerac and 1996’s The Crow: City of Angels) will also visit this year’s festival to present his latest film, The Edge of the Blade.
