Extraction 2 has received its first full-length trailer ahead of its June 16 release on Netflix, with the streaming platform dropping the new promo online. The Chris Hemsworth action sequel shot in Prague during the winter of 2021-22, with some brief reshoots taking place last fall.
The new trailer reveals some key details about the story of the new film, which have been largely kept under wraps till this point.
In Extraction 2, Hemsworth returns as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, left for dead in the original film but once again tasked with a near-impossible mission: to rescue the family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the maximum-security prison where they are being held.
Directed by Sam Hargrave and produced by Joe and Anthony Russo (who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and The Gray Man, which also shot in Prague), Extraction 2 looks to up the ante on the action-packed original film, which became one of Netflix‘s most-viewed original films when it debuted on the streaming platform in 2020.
The action in Extraction 2 reportedly includes a 21-minute fight sequence, according to producer and screenwriter Joe Russo. Like a similar action set piece in the original film, it has been shot to appear as if it has been accomplished in a single take. Portion of the sequence, set in the snowy outdoor area of the prison, can be seen in the trailer.
Extraction 2 had originally been slated to shoot in Sydney, but relocated to Prague due to complex Covid restrictions in late 2021. The move from summer in Australia to a harsh winter outside Prague gives the film a drastically different feel than the original film, which largely took place in sweltering Dhaka, Bangladesh.
In addition to Hemsworth, Extraction 2 co-stars Golshifteh Farahani (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Tinatin Dalakishvili (The Undeclared War), Adam Bessa (Mosul), and Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick). Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Black Widow) has also recently been confirmed to be starring in the action-packed sequel.
In Prague, Extraction 2 shot in Barrandov Studio as well as rural locations around the Czech capital including Kouřim, Valdek, Milovice, Doksany, Litoměřice, Brdy, Jesenice, Struhy, Roudnice nad Labem, and Dobříš.
In addition to the snow-covered locations in the Czech Republic, Extraction 2 also briefly filmed in Vienna, which saw a helicopter chase filmed for the movie.
Extraction 2 is slated to debut on Netflix on June 16.
