Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas are currently in Prague for work on the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which is slated to film in the Czech capital throughout the winter months. But a star who called Prague home last winter also recently popped back up in the city.
Chris Hemsworth, who shot Extraction 2 in and around Prague last November through this March, returned to the Czech capital earlier this month for reshoots on the project, which wrapped over the weekend after a short weeks-long shoot.
He let fans know about the return through Facebook and Instagram.
“Just finished up some reshoots for Extraction 2 in Prague!” Hemsworth posted to social media over the weekend alongside video taken outside the front gates of Prague Castle.
“The fans welcomed me back with open arms,” he joked, alluding to the complete lack of people at the Prague landmark. The video seems to have been taken during the early morning hours, perhaps after a late night out. Extraction 2 doesn’t appear to have filmed any scenes at Prague Castle.
Extraction 2, directed by Sam Hargrave, is a sequel to one of Netflix’s most-watched original movies. It was originally slated to film in Sydney, but moved to Prague at the last minute following complications with the Covid-19 regulations in place in Australia last year.
Hemsworth returns as a Tyler Rake, a mercenary for hire who specializes in high-risk extractions. This time around, he attempts to break a Georgian businessman out of a maximum security prison.
Locations in and around Prague fill in for those in Georgia and potentially other European locales in Extraction 2.
Netflix debuted a trailer for the hotly-anticipated sequel in September, but work on the movie apparently wasn’t done, with Hemsworth and company returning to Prague nearly a year after filming began to put the final touches on the project.
While reshoots are common for Hollywood films that undergo test screening processes and take audience feedback into account, they’re unusual for Netflix productions. The fact that the streaming service has invested additional funds to get Extraction 2 just right is probably a good sign.
In-between Prague stops for Extraction 2, star Hemsworth shot the Mad Max spinoff Furiosa for director George Miller in Australia.
Look for Extraction 2 to debut on Netflix in the spring or summer of 2023.
