Masters of the Universe to shoot in Prague from August; Noah Centineo cast as He-Man
Earlier this year, we wrote about a live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe that was scheduled to shoot in Prague this summer. The project now has an official start date to filming in the Czech capital, as well as a star for the coveted lead role of He-Man.
Directed by Adam and Aaron Nee, Masters of the Universe is currently slated to begin filming in Prague from August 19. The three-month shoot is expected to wrap on or around November 22.
Details regarding the project’s script, the latest version of which penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Men in Black: International), have yet to be revealed, or what locations in the Czech Republic the production might take advantage of.
Given the otherworldly setting of the original Saturday morning cartoon, most of the shooting for Masters of the Universe can be presumed to take place in studio in Prague. While 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren was largely set in modern-day Los Angeles, it would be a surprise to see He-Man next to Prague’s famous landmarks.
An unlikely star, meanwhile, has been cast in the lead role of He-Man: Netflix heartthrob Noah Centineo, who recently starred in the teen romances To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, and The Perfect Date on the streaming platform.
Centineo doesn’t exactly fit the iconic masculine prototype that was the original He-Man in the original Masters of the Universe toy line - Lundgren, surely, came a lot closer in that regard - but perhaps producers are looking to put a different spin on the character.
“It’s a really big responsibility,” Centineo told MTV News.
“It’s a new universe and it’s a new studio and their take on a universe. The Nee brothers, Adam and Aaron Nee, they’re directing it, they’re the filmmakers in charge of the story, and they’re doing one hell of a job developing the world and all these things ... I can’t tell you what tone they’re going for, but they’re genius.”

Lundgren had tapped Chris Hemsworth to fill his shoes as He-Man, but the actor reportedly turned down the role due to its similarity with Thor.
Other members of the cast headed to Prague to film Masters of the Universe have yet to be revealed.
Originally scheduled for a December 2019 release, Masters of the Universe has been given a tentative date of March 6, 2021 for hitting cinemas worldwide.
Check back later this summer for more information about the project, and which locations in Prague or around the Czech Republic might be utilized for filming.
