Kasárna Karlín Debuts 2018 Summer Cinema with Dirty Harry
While the once-popular summer hangout ‘neath the Negrelli Viaduct is in the midst of a lengthy renovation & restoration process, eyeing a 2020 completion next, its Karlín neighbor is beginning its second season as a popular alternative.
Kasárna Karlín, located in the enormous courtyard of the Karlín Barracks just around the corner from the Florenc bus station in Prague, debuted last summer to great success and even enjoyed popularity in the winter months with a temporary ice skating rink.
Now, the cultural hotspot & summer cinema is preparing a new season of events for the warm-weather months of 2018, and will kick things off next week with its first open-air cinema screening.
On Saturday, May 26, Prague’s Kasárna Karlín will screen the seminal San Francisco cop classic Dirty Harry starring Clint Eastwood. The movie will be shown in English with Czech subtitles.
Dirty Harry, about an unorthodox policeman who breaks all the rules while hunting a fictionalized version of the Zodiac Killer, cemented Eastwood’s status as a screen icon and box office draw in the states, and led to four sequels and countless imitations.
The screening will commence at 22:00. Entrance is 80 CZK.
While Kasárna Karlín has screened movies throughout the spring months, they have taken place inside a smaller cinema inside the Barracks buildings. The screening of Dirty Harry will be Kasárna Karlín’s first summer cinema presentation of 2018.
Kasárna Karlín is not only a summer cinema, but also a popular all-around hangout during Prague’s warmer months filled with beach chairs and serviced by a small café and popular tree stump bar (pictured above). At night, it also transforms into a concert venue.
Upcoming concerts at the venue include U.S. bands L.A. Witch and Frankie & The Witch Fingers, Israel’s Ouzo Bazooka, and Australia’s Los Tones.
