Feast, a glorious trash throwback to 80´s splatter flicks, aims low and wildly succeeds.
Broad characterizations, an eclectic B-movie cast, cheesy one-liners, cliché trapped-in-a-house/church/ shopping mall (in this case, a bar) plot, generous dollops of comedy, and mounds of gore help to produce a violently entertaining ride.
Some kind of bizarre monster-like creatures are roaming the desert; patrons of a rundown bar in the middle of nowhere are forced to lock themselves inside and fend off the nasties.
Forget plot or character development, that´s all there is to this film – within the first fifteen we witness multiple deaths, some of which being those we thought would be main characters.
Fast, fun, wonderfully gory film, but the biggest asset is that it knows what it is, and knows what we expect, and is able to continually surprise us throughout.
Not everyone´s cup of tea, but high entertainment for those who enjoy simply guessing which characters will die next.
Debut feature from John Gulager, film features his father Clu Gulager, who was behind one of the most vivid and haunting shorts from the 1960´s, A Day with the Boys.
Third production from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck´s HBO series Project Greenlight, and easily the best. Just don´t expect too much.
